Title
17th century zoomorphic mount
Description
English: An incomplete cast figurative mount of 17th century date.

Description: The mount is asymetrical shaped with a wide top edge and and short isdes curving inwards meeting at a point at the bottom. There is a floraite knop at the top andbottom of the mount. The mount is heavily decorated in relief although due to wear and patination it is quite indistinct. There appears to be a winged horse, horse with rider or other beast with its nose towards the top of the mount and a large crescentric tail. The back is flat and undecorrated save the stubs of two integral rivets that have snapped away close to their bases. The mount is a dark brown colour.

Measurements: 24.4mm long, 12.39mm wide, 5.35mm thick and 3.33g in weight.

Discussion: Read (2001, 35, no.293) illustrates a similar examples dating to the 17th century.
