||
Description |
English: Copper alloy cast buckle dating to from c.1620-1680. The buckle has a double looped trapezoidal frame with moulded decoration on the loops. The edges of the frame are bevelled to add to the decoration. The central pin bar is narrow and the buckle pin does not survive. One end of the frame has large winged extensions terminating in knops. The reverse of the buckle is flat. The buckle measures 28.77mm in length, 40.98 in width and 2.9mm in thickness. It weighs 7.4g.
Direct parallels to this type of buckle can be seen in Ross Whitehead's 'Buckles 1250-1800' Nos. 526-8. |
