Summary

[edit]
Description Riprap, or loose stone used to form a foundation for a breakwater, is transported to a disposal area Feb. 17, 2017 as part of the Sediment Basin Tidegate removal portion of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project. The mitigation feature includes demolishing the tidegate structure and widening the river to re-direct the flow of saltwater to significantly reduce the amount of impacts to freshwater marsh. The flow re-routing plan will direct more freshwater into the Back River area on the South Carolina side of the river. The project currently sits at 32 percent completion with a projected end date of December 2017.
