VILLEFRANCHE SUR MER, FRANCE (Jan. 19, 2017) – Cmdr. Peter Halvorsen, commanding officer of the guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64), right, and Monsieur le Capitaine Jeremy Bourdeverre of the French Navy D'Estienne d'Orves-class corvette FS Enseigne de vaisseau Jacoubet (F 794), pause for a photo. Representatives from the U. S. 6th Fleet and the French Navy participated in events on Jan. 19, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the years during the 1950’s and 1960’s during which the U.S. 6th Fleet was based in Villefranche sur Mer, France. U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with joint, allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
