Title
16th century copper alloy swaord belt fitting.
Description
English: A copper alloy sword belt fitting dating to the sixteenth century AD. The mount comprises a flat body which is in the shape of two opposing foliate motifs. The front face is decorated with the folidate design. The body possesses three circular perforations which are now filled in by iron corrosion. One suspension loop extends from the body. There would have been three but the outer 2 have broken off. From the suspension loop hangs a hooked mount which is also in a foliate design and shape. Only the very top part of this remains now, the rest has broken off. The mount measures 16mm in length and 66mm in width. A similar mount is illustrated in Brian Read (271, 39, No. 373)
