Title
16th Century copper-alloy casket key
Description
English: A cast small copper-alloy rotary casket key dating to the 16th century. Ornate kidney shaped bow with a shank protruding into the bow. The shank is even circular in cross section and protrudes beyond the bit, the shank is collard just below the bow although likely only as decoration rather than a preventative to stop the key being inserted to far into the lock as in throated collared keys. The bit is a plain ractangule shape with small possibility of a now corroded ward at the centre of the bit. The key is a grey-brown colour with small patches of light grey-green patina.

Measurements: 31.04mm long, 15.81mm wide, 4.15mm thick and 3.56g in weight.
