English: Whaling. Whale shoulder blade, painting with oil colors. 1645, Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg. Artistically embellished natural history specimens, such as this whale shoulder blade, were collected as curiosities. Whaling at sea and the processing of the animals on land is described in a panorama-like setting. Only three of these early artworks are known to exist.
Deutsch: Walfang (Walschulterblatt); 1645, Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg. Künstlerisch gestaltete Naturprodukte wie dieses Walschulterblatt wurden als Kuriositäten gesammelt. Panoramahaft wird der Walfang im Wasser und die Verarbeitung der Tiere an Land geschildert. Weltweit sind nur drei dieser frühen Kunstwerke bekannt.
