| Description | Members of the Alaska Air National Guard’s 210th, 211th and 212th Rescue Squadrons and 176th Security Forces Squadron, along with the 163rd Security Forces Squadron from the California Air National Guard, participated in a mass-casualty exercise on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, on July 20, 2016. The scenario-based exercise involved security forces personnel who were conducting a patrol, when opposition forces ambushed their patrol, causing multiple casualties. Additional security forces members were called in as a quick reaction force, and took additional casualties. Subsequently, rescue personnel were called in to assist them mission. Pararescuemen and combat rescue officers from the 212th Rescue Squadron parachuted into the scenario from an HC-130 King aircraft flown by the 211th Rescue Squadron. The rescue team conducted a tactical foot patrol to the site of the besieged security forces team, assisted in providing security to fend off multiple attacks from OPFOR, and triaged and exfiltrated the wounded after calling in HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flown by the 210th Rescue Squadron, who airlifted the wounded from the site.
