Title
15-16th century belt mount.
Description
English: Cast copper alloy bar mount with two spikes for attachment. The mount consists of a flat bar with expanded circular ends. It is very corroded so no decoration can be discerned. There are two spikes at either end of the back of the bar - both are bent inwards towards the centre of the bar. Length 25.14mm, width 9.46mm, thickness (i.e. including longest spike) 16.16mm, weight 3.04g. Margeson (1993) suggests that such mounts are probably 16th-17th century, for use on leather belts, straps or harness, as belt stiffeners or for securing the end of a strap after it is looped through a buckle.
