Description
Deutsch: Der aus Meckenheim bei Bonn stammende Israhel van Meckenem war einer der bedeutensten Kupferstecher seiner Zeit. Eines seiner Werke, 1457 gemalt, zeigt den heiligen Apostel Matthias als Teil der Serie 'Die Apostel'. Der heilige Matthias († um 63) trägt eine Bügelbrille. Es ist damit eines der ganz wenigen und ersten Bildnisse vor 1500 mit einer Brille dieser Bauart und womöglich das älteste mit aufgesetzter Bügelbrille.
