Norman Hayes (left), commander of the Vallejo, Calif.-based, 349th Quartermaster Company, attached to the Fort Bragg, N.C.-based 82nd Sustainment Brigade-U.S. Central Command Materiel Recovery Element, and his company first sergeant, Morro Bay, Calif.-native, 1st Sgt. Terran Jesse case their company colors during an April 24 transfer of authority ceremony with the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based 133rd Quartermaster Company at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. Over the course of their nine-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, troops with the 349th worked various materiel reduction efforts, saving taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars by returning reusable items to the military inventory, either in theater or elsewhere throughout the world.
