Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Chennakeshava Temple is an early 12th-century Vaishnavism Hindu temple in the Hassan district of Karnataka state, India.

Featuring intricate Hoysala artwork and squares-circles vastu design per Hindu texts, the temple was built on the banks of a river in Belur by King Vishnuvardhana.

The temple is active, drawing numerous Hindu devotees every day. It is also a major tourist attraction with being one of the finest examples of sophisticated reliefs and stone carving that show in exquisite detail various forms of Vishnu and Lakshmi, along with reverential iconography of major Hindu gods and goddesses such as Shiva, Parvati, Durga, Saraswati, Ganesha, Kartikeya, Rama, Krishna, Hanuman and others.

The temple features a water tank as well as a large courtyard for performance art festivals.
