Description The medium endurance cutter USCGC Spencer (WMEC 905) is anchored in New York Harbor Nov. 1, 2012, after Hurricane Sandy struck the region three days earlier. Spencer supported Coast Guard responders assessing environmental and navigation hazards in coastal areas and waterways in New Jersey, New York City and Long Island. Sandy formed in the Western Caribbean Sea and affected Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas before making landfall in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
