English: Pictured are a Squadron (No 85) of Hurricanes led by Squadron Leader Peter Townsend, flying in formation on 5 October 1940.
After intensive action with 11 Group at the height of the Battle of Britain, the squadron and its Hurricane I's was now based at Church Fenton, Yorkshire, preparing for a new night-fighting role.
