Description

The starting point for so many European rail journeys up until the mid-1990s. Seen at Calais Maritime station on 5 February 1993, BB 67619 on train 2026, 15:00 Calais Maritime to Paris Nord. These trains, timed to connect with ferries from Dover (which usually had a non-stop Boat Train connection from London Victoria) were the staple power for these trains. Diesel traction would work through to Amiens where they were electric hauled to the French capital by a BB1600 class.

By no means a busy day or season, hence the single loco, they were often double headed with longer rakes of familiar Corail stock. Calais Maritime closed to passenger traffic in January 1995 within a couple of months of the introduction of Eurostar services via the Channel Tunnel.
