Die Näherung von beruht auf den Wert

Die Verwendung der Quadratwurzel aus 2 = liefert eine Näherung von die bereits im Jahr 1913 in der Konstruktion von Jakob de Gelder mit dem Zu Chongzhi-Bruch nahezu erreicht wurde.

  1. Ziehe einen Kreis mit beliebigem Radius um seinen Mittelpunkt
  2. Zeichne das Quadrat mit als Seitenlänge und verlängere die Strecke über hinaus.
  3. Ziehe die Diagonale ergibt Schnittpunkt
  4. Zeichne eine Parallele zu durch bis ergibt Schnittpunkt
  5. Ziehe einen Halbkreis um ab im Uhrzeigersinn, ergibt Schnittpunkt
  6. Halbiere die Strecke in
  7. Verbinde mit ergibt Schnittpunkt
  8. Bestimme den Punkt so, dass
  9. Verbinde mit ergibt Schnittpunkt

Wird die Strecke verdoppelt, ergibt dies die Seitenlänge eines Quadrates mit einem Flächeninhalt, der nahezu gleich dem des Kreises ist.
