English: Dick Culbert: The other major edibles in the cactus family are of the widespread Opuntia genus. This is the most common, Opuntia ficus-indica, which is Mexican by origin, but now widely planted. Note that instead of spines this species has clusters of hair-like glochids. These are barbed and painful. |
