he district designated as No. 13, whichincluded all the territory west of Third strcet, betweenAlbany and Cayuga, within the village corporation. Forsome time previous, the school of this district had beentaught in a hired room west of the present site of theMethodist church. The new school-house was small, con-sistin<: of but a single room. In 1843 another district, styled No. 17, was taken offfrom the east end of this district, including all the territorylying between Albany and Cayuga streets, and Third andSixth streets. A house consisting of a single room wasbuilt on Fourth street, near Bridge, for the u.sc of thi.sdistrict. In ISati this building was enlarged to its presentsize by the board of educiition. In the fall of 1848 another colony was formeil from tlieparent stock, and from the southwesterly part of No. 13was created a district embracing all the territory lyingbetween Albany and Oneida streets, and west of Sixthstreet. Dunham, the suc-cessor of Mr. Park, to No. 10, by whicli it was designatedat the time of the orgutiization of the board of education.In the winter and spring of 1819 a new house was erectedon West Mohawk, near Tentli street. Tliis also was asingle room, and is still known by the name of WhiteSchool-House, being occupied by primary school No. 3.All south of Albany street constituted district No. 9.About the ye;ir 1841 a new district wa.s created fromthis extensive one, embracing all between Albany streetand the old village line; and a stone school-house, with asingle room, was erected in 1842. This was enlarged in1850 to its present capacity. The cost of enlarging wasfourteen hundred dollars. It stands on or near the cornerof West Fourth and Erie streets, and is occupied by pri-mary school No. 5.
