[edit]Description-2018-05-19 Gothic Works, Hardy Road, Norwich, Norfolk.jpg |
English: The entrance into the Gothic Works from Hardy Road in the neighbourhood of Carrow in the city of Norwich, Norfolk, England. The building which adjoined at left has been demolished since 2001. ATB Laurence Scott Ltd have been based in Norwich since 1883. The company originally manufactured generators and motors, but soon also started producing devices and components for all aspects of electricity supply. It was founded by William Harding Scott (1862-1938) and was originally based in King Street, but in 1895 moved to new premises at the Gothic Works where it can still be found today. In 1888, Reginald Edward Laurence joined the company, which subsequently became Laurence, Paris and Scott Ltd. When the company acquired Electromotors in 1929, it became Laurence, Scott and Electromotors. Today it is trading under the name ATB Laurence Scott. The Gothic Works site is 4.49 hectares in size and although the current buildings on the site form part of Norwich’s historical industrial quarter, contain a rich industrial heritage and are considered to be of some architectural and local historic value, not one of them is actually listed. |
