Description
日本語: 田植えに先立つ「五月忌み」と、中国から伝来した邪気払いの行事が結合したのが日本の「端午の節句」。この日にかかせない薬草「菖蒲」が「尚武」(しょうぶ・武事を尊ぶ気風) に通じることから、武士階級の行事にとりいれられ、女子の祭日に定着していた三月三日「桃の節句」と対をなすように、やがて「端午の節句」は男子の祝祭日として定着するが、もともとは、稲作に関連した豊穣を願う、女の祭りであった。
