Summary
[edit]Description狹翼魚龍屬化石.jpg |
中文(繁體):狹翼魚龍屬(Stenopterygius)化石,臺北市信義區三張犁次分區興雅里(興雅)
English: The name of Ichthyosaurs means "fish-like lizard". These animals look very much like the dolphins nowdays. They are neither fish nor mammals. Fossil evidence shows that as soon as the Ichthyosaurs appeared in early Triassic, they had a cylindrical body and an inconspicuous dorsal fin. Because that the differentiation of the caudal fin has not yet been formed, paleontologists speculate that they were swimming "like a sea snake". After middle Triassic, the caudal fin of Ichthyosaurs gradually evolved into an asymmetrical half-moon shape, and the function of the caudal fin for propulsion increased, and the swimming ability became stronger. Holzmaden on southern Germany can be called a treasury of Ichthyosaurs fossils. In the marine shale in this area, many embryonic fossils exquisitely preserved in the body of mother Ichthyosaurs heve been found, which directly proves that the Ichthyosaurs was viviparous. |
