[edit]Description明命通寶 (Minh Mạng Thông Bảo) - Scott Semans 04.jpg |
English: B99/101 — Five zinc coins of Gia Long and Minh Mang tied with twine to an old label in fountain pen: "From Vo'ing Lam under China - 2000 of these coins were given in exchange for a dollar in 1850" (Signed) "B R."
Note: Beginning with Minh Mang coins come in 6 and 9 Phan "denominations" which can be distinguished visually. Key to recognizing the 10 main varieties of Minh Mang's 9 Phan are character size (especially Mang and Bao), best described in reference to the outer rim, and whether or not the central strokes in the bei (box) of Bao are open on the right or not.
