בבית המקדש שבנה שלמה היו החלונות "שקופים אטומים" (מלכים-א, ו, ד); המדרש מפרש שחלונות המקדש היו צרים מן הפנים ורחבים מן חוץ, כך שהאור לא היה נכנס אליו מבחוץ אלא יוצא ממנו מן הפנים. בתמונה לעיל מוצע פירוש אחר- מי שעומד בפנים יכול לראות שההשתקפות בחלון מונעת ממי שעומד בחוץ לראות פנימה
