За 15–18 км на південь від Запоріжжя заплавна тераса Дніпра сильно розширюється, і по профілю с. Біленьке-Василівка ширина її сягає понад 20 км. Це величезне розширення заплави (близько 80 тис. га), що знаходилось між Дніпром і його притокою р. Конкою, здавна називалось в народі «Кінські плавні» або «Великий Луг». Нині ця територія майже повністю затоплена водами Каховського водосховища. Залишки її природних комплексів збереглися вздовж берегової смуги; по балках, що простяглися по всьому узбережжю і на островах, що утворились після заповнення водосховища у 1956 році.
