Костел розташований у центрі міста. Колись це був домініканський монастир, заснований Феліксом Гербуртом за привілеєм короля Владислава ІІ Ягайла ще в 1404 р. на місці старовинного костелу св. Катерини Олександрійської, який виник в Мостиськах ще в 1343 році (інформація з історії костелу, що висить в самому костелі. В книзі "Парафії, костели та каплиці Львівської області, Том І" згадується, що храм вважався дуже старим вже в 1603 році.) У 1578 р. монастир отримав землі на передмісті Закостілля.) На місці знищеного дерев’яного костелу у 1598 році постав мурований. Побудовано також кляштор.
