Вознесенский девичий монастырь был построен на месте разрушенного Ильинского мужского монастыря в 1675 году.Первые постройки были деревянными,во время пожара в 1719 году сгорели.С 1724 года началось строительство каменных зданий.В 1913 г. в монастыре жило 36 монахинь и 130 послушниц. Вознесенский монастырь был закрыт в 1918 г.Во время ВОВ был сильно разрушен.В 90-х годах 20 века были восстановлены Собор монастыря и ворота.
