Description
English: Альби́ (древняя Альбига, фр. и окс. Albi, лат. Civitas Albigensium, Albia) — главный город департамента Тарн на юге Франции (историческая область Лангедок) с населением 51,2 тыс. жит. (2008). Расположен на возвышенности над рекой Тарн. Неподалёку лежит известный Со-дю-Сабо, или Со-дю-Тарн, ряд врезавшихся в известковые скалы тарнских водопадов. Местность, в которой расположен город, называлась раньше «Альбижуа» и была известна религиозными преследованиями её жителей (см. Альбигойский крестовый поход). В документах IX—XIII вв. упоминаются графы Альби.

Историческая часть города — памятник Всемирного наследия. К достопримечательным зданиям принадлежит посвящённый св. Цецилии готический собор, построенный в 1282—1512 годах, расписанный старинными фресками и имеющий органный хор; церковь Сен-Сальви, похожее на крепость здание префектуры — бывший дворец графов Альбижуа, в котором долго жили архиепископы, больница и театр. Через Тарн ведут старый мост в 6 и новый в 5 аркад, длиной в 160 м.
