Архитектурный облик русской Свято-Пантелеимоновой обители сильно отличается от традиционных для Афона греческих монастырей; сыграло в этом свою роль и то, что отстраивалась она в XIX веке, когда уже не приходилось возводить крепостных укреплений для защиты от пиратских набегов.
