English: Illustration from the book Wärend och Wirdarne (1863) by Gunnar Olof Hyltén-Cavallius. Stones believed to have magical properties that concerned parents hang around their children's necks to protect them against sickness.
Svenska: Illustration från sidan 257 i Wärend och Wirdarne (1863) av Gunnar Olof Hyltén-Cavallius. Bildtext: "Ält-stenar från Tylö-skogen" Ur boken: "På gränsen emellan Östergötland och Nerike brukar folket ännu hänga på barnens bröst små stenar af slät trapp, likaledes utmärkta af insvarfvade fördjupningar eller håligheter. Dessa stenar få der namn af Ält-stenar, emedan de tros bota för ältan, en barnsjukdom som kommer af Elfvorna. Vi finna i detta forntidsbruk, likasom i det skånska folkbruket att på barnens hals, till skydd emot förgerning, hänga s. k. Gommona-stenar (af Gomoden eller Kornmoden, i Ö. Göinge ett namn på Thor), motsvarande de i Wärend omtalade Gobonda-stenarne eller Gofar-stenarne (§ 54), samt i andra analoga folkbruk, en enkel förklaring öfver den urgamla seden, att på bröst och hals bära stenar och amuleter."
