Description

Eerbetoon aan de Noord en Zuid Hollandse Redding Maatschappij (nu KNRM (Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij). Beeldhouwer: Louk van Meurs.

Op de achtergrond de vuurtoren Jan van Speijk.

De in 1833 gebouwde vuurtoren werd in 1841 omgebouwd tot monument voor de Nederlandse held J.C.J. van Speijk. Deze luitenant ter zee liet in 1831 zijn kanonneerboot ontploffen om niet in de handen van de Belgen te vallen. Het ontwerp van het monument is van de architect J.D. Zocher.
