Description |
Horizontal, sepia photograph showing parade with horse drawn wagons. Handwritten note on label of photo reads: "Parade June 3, 1916." Handwritten note accompanying the photo written by the photographer reads: "No. 5 Battery A. taking part in the Preparess (Preparedness" Parade." St. Louis City officials marked "Preparedness Day" with a parade to "give expression to the general demand for adequate armed defenses," according to the St. Louis Republic, June 3, 1916. The parade route went out Locust Street from Tenth to the Locust- Lindell cut off, and out Lindell Boulevard to Vandeventer Avenue. A reviewing stand was set up in front of the St. Louis Club, from which Governor Elliot W. Major and Mayor Henry Kiel watched the four-hour- long parade. |
