Determining the copyright status of paintings is often difficult, but I'm siding with the common sense view rather than the lawyering view. However, the painting is probably housed in a museum somewhere, so we should be able to find someone who knows the author. If the painting was done in Bolivar's lifetime, the artist is long dead.--HereToHelp (talk) 20:48, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Kept. I see a no-issue here. The subject of the painting (Simon Bolivar) died in 1830. If the painter was born the same day as Simon Bolivar died, he would have to be over 170 years old today. No one lived that long as of this post. -- Cat ^ちぃ？ 22:20, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
