I don't see why the image has to be deleted. There is one report of possible being a fake... but even if it's a fake, I don't see why it has to be deleted. It may be used in different Wikimedia proyects and shown as a "fake flag used sometimes to represent the island" or something like that. --B1mbo 02:16, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Except the Commons is not some indiscriminate aggregator of information--if I want to make up fake flags for every country in the world, I shouldn't get to store them here just because they could the thereafter be truthfully labeled "fake flag used sometimes to represent the country".

While one person supplying a report is good enough for the FOTW listserv networks, it simply doesn't cut it for Wikimedia's rules of notability. This graphic's only citable source is a report from one individual on the FOTW site from 1998, which has since been refuted by at least three other posters. By holding down the namespace of Flag_of_Saint-Martin_(local) we are in effect corroborating that initial report, and it means all other Wikimedia projects are grabbing it using the standard (local) template syntax without providing context such as you've suggested like "fake flag ascribed to the island on one website."

I might favour moving the image to "Flag_of_Saint-Martin_(as_reported_once_on_listserv)" if we're going to be particular about keeping it. :) The Tom 16:29, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

"Media files that are not useful for any Wikimedia project are beyond the scope of Wikimedia Commons". By violating notability guidelines of all the various Wikipediae which it appears, there is no justification for it being here, surely? The Tom 21:10, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

“Flag_of_Saint-Martin_(local).svg is used on 226 pages in 37 projects” [1]. Obviously, quite a lot of Wikimedia projects consider this image to be useful. Keep --Rotkraut 19:29, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

I live on the french side of this island since 30 years. The only official flag we have here is the french flag from France. That supposed flag of Saint-Martin shown here is nowhere seen on the island, not either at our 3 borders with the dutch side. The other most exhibited flag after the french one is the Heineken logo one.
