incompatible combination of various license types, en wiki list source as "various Pd images from Commons but does not specify the files Denniss (talk) 00:27, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment I located 7 of the 8 original files (couldn't find the original for Bismarck). These are a mix of PD, GFDL and CC-BY, so the collage could be released under the GFDL, if the Bismarck photo is compatible with that licence. I've contacted the original uploader. If a source image is GFDL and another CC-By then they are not compatible. You can't add CC-By to a GFDL-only image and vice versa. The Image:Famousgermans.jpg is also affected as the Adenauer file is GFDL-only and the Ratzinger image is CC-By-2.5-Brazil only. --Denniss (talk) 12:11, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it was OK to take a CC-BY image, make a derivative, and license the derivative under the GFDL (but not the other way around), as long as you credit the original author.
The Bismarck image comes from Image:Grms.jpg, which was uploaded by en:User:Antidote, who has been blocked for sock-puppetry and seems to have have had issues with copyrights. Pruneautalk 15:22, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you can re-release a CC-by with GFDL (With CC-by-sa that is not possible). There is a problem with a missing source for the Bismarck image, but I propose we do not delete this image before replacing it with a version that has a free image of Bismarck. Kept as {{GFDL}}. –Tryphon 15:26, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
