UAE copyright laws state that photographic works are copyrighted for the lifetime of the author and 50 years thereafter. The author has not been identified, but since the photo was taken in 1964, it would still be copyrighted regardless of whether the author is living or deceased. We should not break the law
[edit]I am the person who uploaded this photo, and I did that under this license {{PD-United Arab Emirate}} which clearly indicates that any photographic production goes into the public domain after 10 years. If this is wrong then many photos will have to be deleted. not only this one. I personally am against breaking the law, but would also like the opinion of an expert on this matter. The source given is from a reputable law-firm that is well qualified with the intellectual property laws in the UAE, I do not question that, but just to be sure an expert's opinion is needed.--Nasib Bitar 00:37, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just another thought, does the law apply for photos taken before the formation of the United Arab Emirates on the 2nd of December 1971?--Nasib Bitar 10:32, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Kept. Image is PD as it was taken in 1964. The new 2002 law (the legally binding Arabic text) clearly states that such works are protected to 25 years only. PD works were not re-protected. Which means all images older than 1992 are PD as the older law promised a 10 years of protection. I will update our templates --Tarawneh 00:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
