This file was initially tagged by Peteforsyth as no license. Well there is a CC license. But the authors an licenses of the depicted image should be named. Might be a borderline case for COM:DM. JuTa 20:25, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • According to my understanding of the COM:DM page, the appropriate response for a de minimis claim is to simply remove the minimal content -- especially where the shape of the picture makes such a crop practical (i.e., a rectangle can easily remove that one element without removing anything else of importance). But the uploader has indicated a strong preference in similar cases, for keeping the uncropped version. I think that preference clearly indicates the photos are not de minimis, but are an essential part of the general photo.
Even if there is a legal case like that to be made (i.e., even if our De Minimis policy is more strict than relevant law), I think it is simply a matter of respect for the original photographer to give them credit if they have requested it (via the selection of a license that requires attribution). I am confident the photographers are known or knowable, and that these are likely released under a free license (but not public domain); so I think it's reasonable that the uploader should find their names and include them in the file. Even if you're correct that it's not absolutely required by the law, it would demonstrate respect and appreciation to the photographer. -Pete F (talk) 20:52, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
