The interface of this program consists exclusively of well-known elements and does not contain original author's work. According to the decisions of the courts for Apple Computer, Inc. v. Microsoft Corporation and Lotus Dev. Corp. v. Borland Int'l, Inc., protected are only those elements of the program interface that contain the original author's work. Their mutual location, the scheme of construction and operation of copyright are not protected. In Russian Wikipedia, where I work, there is even a template named "trivial screenshot". But Russian Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons have difference in copyright policy. For example, while different Wikipedias accept fair use, Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use, as stated in COM:FU, so a template on ru.Wikipedia may not work here.廣九直通車 (talk) 09:31, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As a suggestion, I think you may ask for ideas for other users on the village pump about copyright issues.廣九直通車 (talk) 09:33, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Keep @Jeff G.: you don't think this is PD-ineligible? The magnifying glass, three dots next to it, everything above that and the black bar at the bottom are standard Android design elements. (and Android is free software) And the list of contacts doesn't contain anything very original either. The two user icons have a CC BY SA license but would also be de minimis or could be blurred or replaced with some free picture. - Alexis Jazz 18:36, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Generally the screenshot does not surpass threshold of originality, but I'm concerned about two user avatars. @Alexis Jazz: how do you know, that they are CC-BY-SA-licensed? Of course, blurring the avatars is one of solutions. Taivo (talk) 10:08, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Taivo: CC BY-SA was added specifically for the avatars. Considering that we don't know the validity of that claim or if the avatars may be some DW I will do something about it. As the screenshot is used on the general "WhatsApp" article (so the actual avatars are irrelevant) I will replace them with something free. - Alexis Jazz 12:03, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have already said that, according to a number of court decisions, the mutual arrangement of trivial elements by copyright is not protected. Eg0rk0t323 (talk) 20:25, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Compare to Android contacts (found on [1]). That's what the WhatsApp contacts list is based on, and Android is free. - Alexis Jazz 19:59, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
KeepOK, another lesson for me. I think the file could be kept as it meets the requirements mentioned before.廣九直通車 (talk) 13:51, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: resolved. --Sealle (talk) 07:25, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
