Unused image blanked by uploader, I see no good reason to keep. Ww2censor (talk) 13:04, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand the problem .... ??? BiiJii (talk) 07:48, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
BiiJii: The main problem is that you blanked all the details about the file as well as the copyright licence, so al information that should be there is missing. People usually do that when they want the file deleted. Besides which we don't know the copyright status of the illistration. Who actually created the illustration? If not you, we also need the permission of the artist as well as the photographer. Ww2censor (talk) 09:04, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If the technical details of the photo have disappeard, I am not responsible ... I just followed the steps for uploading. This is an artsy version of a classical Women's WC sign in Switzerland, compare with this

I took a photo of this sign in some restaurant or café. I do not know who did this "painting on wood panel" so if there's a copyright problem, please do delete (I doubt it is a known artist). It's a bit as if I took a photograph of a graffiti (of which I have uploaded many...). The photographer is myself.
Is it permitted to upload pictures of graffiti ? Of plaques on walls in cities ? Street signs ? BiiJii (talk) 09:21, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually you did blank the page with this edit in 2023 having uploaded the file in 2019. Being an illustration it is different from graffiti. Please review COM:GRAFFITI. Road signs and plaques depends on several issues. The Swiss file you pointed to also has the same copyright status issue because you don't know who made the illustration and don't have their permission, unless possibly "freedom of panorama" exists for such items in the country in question. I doubt your graffiti argument holds water here because the illustrated panels are artistic works that were likely commissioned by the establishment in question of bought from the shop. Well... if WC signs are artistic works ... hm... If I blanked sth on the page, it must have been by mistake, I did not deliberately try to steal somebody's artistic creation. BiiJii (talk) 20:14, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is this an artistic creation ?

Yes, and yes. Both were created by someone whose work itself is copyright in most countries until 70 years after their death and often longer is the artist is not known, even if you photograph it and own the copyright of the photo you cannot do what you want with the photo. Your photo is known as a derivative work and the link may explain it more clearly for you. Ww2censor (talk) 09:36, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My question was : will my photo be deleted but not the other two ? I don't really mind and I'll try to find the time to study IPR law with that page on derivative works. BiiJii (talk) 18:51, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've been dealing with copyright for many years. The other two should be deleted too but along with those two I will review your other uploads and if they are not correctly licenced I'll nominate them for deletion. However I'll wait until this one is closed by an administrator before nominating any more. Ww2censor (talk) 22:30, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not an IT wizard ..... When I upload photos, I follow the steps of Commons. Only recently have there been new steps added about - I believe - licenses and copyright. Before deleting all my work - many of my photos are on WP pages - check other files from the same years. How is a grassroots contributor supposed to know how to license pictures correctly according to international IPR rules ??? BiiJii (talk) 07:31, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted: per nomination, COM:DW missing essential info. Similar problematic images will need to be nominated separately. --P 1 9 9   14:34, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
