FOP does not apply in Norway. Sculptures will be PD in Norway in January 2014 Themightyquill (talk) 16:37, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Themightyquill. By PD you mean Public Domain right? Sorry I'm not that familiar with the abbreviations. By the way is there any link where I can read about why it will be PD in Norway by January 2014. And does that mean if January 2014 already comes I can reupload these photos? Thanks for you reply. --Nickrds09 (Talk Page) 10:26, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, yes. FOP is freedom of panorama which grants you the right to photograph and republish works of art if they are in public spaces. Many countries have laws that allow this. Norway does not. PD is indeed Public Domain. Vigeland's copyrights expire this year because he died in 1943 (70 years ago) which is the legal requirement in Norway. As to whether you can upload them next year, it's problematic. Unfortunately, because Wikimedia Commons is based in the United States, they have decided to follow US copyright law. Since the US has a much longer post-death requirement, I believe these sculptures will NOT be PD in the USA in January. I know, it all seems ridiculous to me too. - Themightyquill (talk) 13:49, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah it really seems ridiculous. Anyway so what I understand is that it will still not be allowed here in commons but maybe I can upload it in Norwegian Wikipedia since it is already PD there by 2014. Is my understanding correct? Thanks. --Nickrds09 (Talk Page) 03:48, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
