Low resolution with no EXIF data. Possible copyrights violation. Rapsar (talk) 22:01, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I took this photo myself of a skeleton in an open casket at the Turkish Archaeological Museum in Istanbul during the summer of 2012. The EXIF data is missing because it was erased by the online photo editor I used to shrink the image. The image is low res and small because I used it for an avatar for a while.
Implying this photo is a copyright violation solely on the basis of its missing EXIF data and low resolution is absurd. --Katangais (talk) 19:44, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There are tons of examples of deleted files by this reason.--Rapsar (talk) 23:20, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It happened to these other files is not a valid pretext for pointing fingers and accusing a user of copyright violation. I have contributed hundreds of photos of my travels to Commons, many of which lack EXIF data because they were edited prior to being uploaded. If this one is deleted on the basis of being a possible copyright violation, that throws a number of my other travel photos into question.
To quote from the precautionary principle page: "The precautionary principle is that where there is significant doubt about the freedom of a particular file, it should be deleted." I would challenge the notion that you have established significant doubt concerning the file's copyright status. All we have here is a photograph with no EXIF data. --Katangais (talk) 02:52, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Uploader has stated their own image, and no reason to dispute as no evidence to the contrary has been provided. We do however, encourage the contributor to upload images of higher quality and containing EXIF data, and them make derivatives. Such an approach provides a better photo archive, and avoids these discussions.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:33, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
