Self-indulgently photoshopped image with Jimmy Wales' face added to an existing photo of a video conferencing device. No suggestion that this is an accurate representation of the resolution and interface of the Tandberg E20. McGeddon (talk) 12:59, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

KEEP: Actually, please check Wikimedia's policies/procedures, etc.... and you'll see there's no requirement that a photo need provide an "accurate representation of the resolution and interface" of any device. This file photo represents a de facto reality: that videophones provide real-time audio and video of whomever a person wishes to communicate with. Providing a photoshopped image of Mr. Wales' face is no less contradictory to Wikimedia's policies and requirements, than inserting a photo any other person's face. Kindly disregard the suggestion that the image ought to be deleted on the basis that user:McGeddon doesn't appreciate it for what it is. Best: HarryZilber 02:57, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
I flagged a similar case earlier in the year that showed a 1990s cellphone superimposed with the same Jimmy Wales photo at a resolution plainly impossible on a device of that time, and it was deleted. Both images were presented on Wikipedia articles without comment, suggesting that they were genuine photos of the device in use, and the Kyocera image has been reused offsite under its CC licence.
No intrinsic objection to the image being of Jimbo rather than another person, just that it's not an accurate image of the hardware - the actual Tandberg device does not appear to be backlit, but the use of a bright white image here suggests that it is. Is there really no Commons policy about putting misleading photoshops out there for educational reuse? --McGeddon (talk) 11:16, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: A media file that is in use on one of the other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation is considered automatically to be useful for an educational purpose: see COM:INUSE. Whether it accurately represents the capabilities of the phone is an issue for discussion on the Wiki pages where it appears. Wikipedia users may decide to use it or to reject it as being unrealistic and hence non-encyclopedic but that is not an issue for us here. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 11:16, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
