Fake license. Claims to be "own work", but the image uses copyrighted characters from the Tom and Jerry cartoon. Ari (talk) 02:44, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What license do you suggest I release it?
Actually, these are not the original Tom and Jerry cartoon characters. I recreated it myself to introduce this scene in the 'Tom and Jerry - Salt water tabby' which is not in the original cartoon.
These are my characters as the original Jerry does have a manhood. I agree, they look like the original characters but they're not.
Kindly let me know your suggestions.
Thank you Goodman Andrew (talk) 00:14, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot release this picture under any license suitable for Commons because it's derivative work containing copyrighted characters. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard is quite clear in what you cannot upload: "We can't accept works created or inspired by others. This includes material such as drawings of characters from TV, comics, or movies - even if you drew them". Ari (talk) 01:28, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
NOT a good way of thinking as almost everything around us is deriatative work.
For example automobile was invented by Karl Benz in the 80s. Therefore, almost any car today is inspired by or a deriavative of Benz, and by your logic, it doesn't matter whether one has added significant improvement to the original work or not.
I sincerely hope that you understand my concern?
Kindly let me know the most appropriate license to release this work on. Tom and Jerry were created in the 1940s and their original creators are all dead now, although, not upto 70years the died. Goodman Andrew (talk) 06:12, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
