Tagged as {{speedydelete|please delete the bot uploads, the only version with evidence of permission is the one from flickr, the other one is a bigger cut that lacks permission}} by User:Hekerui, but this looks more complex. High-resolution version apparently downloaded from here "with permission". This sounds like a typical "no permission" case: we need an OTRS ticket but don't have it. Low-resolution version apparently downloaded from Flickr where it is licensed as CC-BY 2.0, but if you actually check Flickr, you see that it was uploaded to Flickr in 2012[1] althought the file from the other source was put on Wikipedia in 2011. Flickr and Myspace users have the same username, but I can't find anything on Myspace which proves that the Flickr account really does belong to the same person, so maybe the Flickr file also needs a permission check. Still, the Flickr account has been active since 2009, which suggests that it might be fine. Stefan4 (talk) 23:43, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- I agree that this is a valid concern. I suspect that Oda or someone close to Oda uploaded that image to the flickr account following my request for permission on the Myspace image. An OTRS permission whould clear this up. Hekerui (talk) 09:53, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, I am the user that initially uploaded the photo to wikipedia about an year ago. I have the honor of knowing Steve Oda and at that time I asked him to email a permission release to wikipedia. As I remember, he sent the permission and wikipedia accepted the photo. I don't know what happened to the permission. I can testify that he is the owner of the flickr account [2] and the MySpace account [3] where he uses the photo in question in his profile and photostream. This is consistent with the fact that both accounts are linked to his official website [4]. When this issue was brought up by Hekerui I contacted Steve Oda and suggested that he upload the photo to Flickr and tag it with the correct permission so that it could be downloaded by the wikipedia bot. As I understand, an OTRS permission notice is not needed when a photo is tagged with a CC-BY permission in flickr. camsc (talk) 18:53, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
- That's fine, provided Oda owns the copyright to the image (if it was a work for hire for example). If he doesn't, he needs to gather the permission by the photographer who took the image - of course it's not outlandish to assume that he does and I only bring that up for the sake of clarity and because the Commons takes copyright very seriously. Closed as Kept. Appears to have been resolved; free licensed on source Flickr. (If there are possible further permission issues, a request for COM:OTRS can be made.) -- Infrogmation (talk) 11:15, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
