unsure about copyright status. Seems reproduction of 2D copyrighted text Effeietsanders (talk) 20:52, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- inscription
I dont understand what is the problem here? This is a picture of the inscription stone at the jyothish mantralaya... Who said that i have written it? I named the file also as inscription!!
- I'm not sure it is a problem (that is why I asked a review and didn't delete myself), but it seems that the inscription itself (a text) is copyrighted by the person who wrote that text. A picture where the main topic is this inscription might therefore also be copyrighted by the author of that text. Effeietsanders (talk) 11:34, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Deleted: Unless the person who wrote the text died before 1943, this is a derivative work and requires permission of the writer. In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 70 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in this case.. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 14:42, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
