Reverting a speedy deletion. How old is this symbol? SV1XV (talk) 19:02, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I posted to delete, because is an non-free logo. The same goes for this one. I uploaded this picture one year ago, and I was warned for being an non-free logo (here) and consequently was deleted. That´s the reason... But if i made a mistake, my apologise. Many logos are free, because they are simple (see {{PD-textlogo}}) or because they are old designs. However the uploader should be able to prove it, by giving a correct date, a reference etc. SV1XV (talk) 04:27, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment the idea of this symbol is hardly copyrightable (circle + triangle + sword + trowel), but the representation probably is the derivative work from here (the sword and the handle of the trowel was slightly modified). I'm not sure about it. Trycatch (talk) 22:43, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment This is the point, if i understood : this site said: " Graphics on this Page are Copyright © 2007-2009 Jeff Day and may be used free of charge for non-commercial Masonic purposes only. "

Continue: " You are welcome to use these graphics on your Masonic sites and other publications (...) " But this is included to post here, in Wikicommons?! PS:I do not like to see pictures that are marked for delete unnecessarily...:-/ Light Warrior Conspiracy?!? 06:07, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

However the same site admits that these are "common Massonic emblems", so he has no copyright for the designs themselves, and also not for the actual bitmap files of the simpler designs, which do not allow much freedom of expression. Perhaps he owns the copyright of the vector graphics files (EPS or SVG). SV1XV (talk) 07:38, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment The problem with the Royal & Select Masters Emblem is that its depiction is probably one of the most subjective among Masonic emblems. The only things that are required, are an incomplete triangle, a trowel, and in most jurisdictions, a sword. After that it’s all just up to the person putting together the emblem. It’s usually purple or gold, and sometimes it has a circle around it and other times it doesn’t. Really since there is not set design I doubt it’s something you can copyright. Deleted, derivative work of a copyrighted design. Kameraad Pjotr 20:06, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
