Derivative of a copyrighted work: the hymnal cover is complex enough to qualify for copyright. Nyttend (talk) 13:17, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am not an expert in copyright law, but it seems to me that showing what a particular version of a hymnal looks like would not violate copyright, if it is used as an image and not as a cover for some completely different book. What is so complex?--Bhuck (talk) 15:27, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The image on the cover is too complex to qualify as {{PD-ineligible}}. Two-dimensional artwork, like the design on the cover, may not be included at Commons unless (1) it's too simple for copyright, (2) it's in the public domain for some other reason, or (3) we have good evidence that the copyright holder has released it under a license that permits unlimited reproduction (even for commercial use) and modification. Like any other work of art, book covers, unless they are only text or otherwise very simple, have a copyright. Deleted.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 15:38, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
