Commons:Deletion requests/File:Population Matters logo.jpg
Population Matters is based in the UK, and the threshold of originality is very low there. This file may be non-free. Sunmist (talk) 08:17, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
I have contacted Population Matters and they are ok that this file is in public domain. No deletion required as far as I can see. I am new to wiki commons so please provide detail if I have misunderstood anything about this site and what is allowed. BTW Population Matters are due to upload a redesigned version of their logo shortly (it will be in PNG form). Might be best to wait till they do this and then re-evaluate the logos. - If they could state that somewhere on their website, or contact the OTRS team and let them know they've put it in the public domain, that would be great.
- I nominated this file for deletion because the license tag "This image consists only of simple geometric shapes or text. It does not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and is therefore in the public domain." might not be accurate for media originating from the United Kingdom. (Ex. if it was made in the United States it'd be fine, but the UK has different copyright laws) Sunmist (talk) 12:10, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- OK, I've suggested to Population Matters that they email the OTRS team telling them that they give WikiCommons permission to publish the logo under a free license ie in the public domain.Ivanalison (talk) 11:57, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
Deleted: That's good, but for now there is an explicit strong copyright notice on the Web Site. The OTRS action will take several months; if they want to speed this, they could, as noted above, make an explicit exception for the logo at https://populationmatters.org/population-matters-terms-use. .
