As had been discussed at Commons talk:PD files#File:Nixon while in US Congress.jpg, this image does not have clear information on its copyright status. The Biographical Directory itself states that its images come from various sources and might be copyrighted.[1] (Note: the issue of the Biographical Directory images has cropped up before in Commons:Deletion requests/Template:PD-USGov-Congress-Bio.) In relation, Nixon's Library has stated that its pre-Presidential photos are copyrighted.[2] Jappalang (talk) 01:08, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hrm. Most of the bio-guide's photos (especially for more recent politicians) are the official portraits, but not all of them (and thus the tag was deleted). They usually note the source if it was external though. I haven't found much info on this photo, although it does show up in the background of this photo along with an Eisenhower portrait. It seems most likely it was an official portrait from when Nixon was Vice President (during Eisenhower's first term). Tentative Keep. Carl Lindberg (talk) 23:57, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- "They usually note the source if it was external though.": which of the entries with copyrighted photos notes the sources? Jappalang (talk) 05:18, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
- [3], [4], [5], etc. They don't explicitly note copyrighted or not, but they do mention sources. Carl Lindberg (talk) 03:14, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, it was also used in the 1957 inauguration booklet. Carl Lindberg (talk) 03:41, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- While not definitive, I think we have pretty good circumstantial evidence of it being PD-USGov, or at least already being treated as such in 1957 -- notice in the inaguration booklet that Norman Rockwell is credited and thanked for use of his image, while this photo is simply used without credit. I'd tend to support Keep unless we have any particular reason to doubt PD status for this photo. -- Infrogmation (talk) 17:26, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
