Artist: Mirka Mora (18 March 1928 – 27 August 2018): protected until 2089. Permission of her heirs is required. 4nn1l2 (talk) 15:28, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:4nn1l2 has put file Mirka1963.jpg on [[1]] up for deletion. While I appreciate their vigilance as a WP editor, I do not understand the reasons. I have now removed the image from the article pending the result of this request, but I have not deleted the file as I don't know how.
This is the background. In 1963 Mirka made the charcoal drawing as a gift to my father, J. Brian McArdle, whose portrait of Mirka I also uploaded into the article, via Wikimedia Commons, where it is available to anyone to use (as had already happened - it's a lovely portrait). The drawing, of which I made the copy for the article, has been in the family since Brian's death in 1969. We, the McArdle family, own the image.Regards, Jamesmcardle (talk) 22:41, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Jamesmcardle, your family merely owns the physical copy of the drawing. Copyright and all neighbouring rights still belong to Mirka (or her heirs) for 70 years after her death. (See Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Australia for more details.) Please have the copyright holder send a permission statement to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. The full instructions are given at COM:OTRS. 4nn1l2 (talk) 05:15, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Only administrators and above can delete pages and files, by the way. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 15:42, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, 4nn1l2 I think, being sensitive to the fact that Mirka's death is recent, that I would prefer, if I have no rights over the image as you say, that the file be deleted, by an administrator as BRAINULATOR9 emphasises. I won't go pestering family for permissions at this time. Maybe later. I have learned another WP lesson about copyright in the process.
