Inappropriate/child abuse SitcomyFan (talk) 10:50, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Question What is Commons policy on this? Do photos of child abuse get deleted to protect the privacy of the abused child or can they be kept to show abusive behavior? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:07, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ikan Kekek: Are you suggesting that the conduct depicted in this file is indeed child abuse?
The nominator removed this image from en:Washing out the mouth with soap shortly after before creating this DR, even though the article itself is not clear on whether this conduct is child abuse. @SitcomyFan: You should have mentioned this here. Source is given as Flickr: Matthew Getting Mouth Washed Out With Soap. The image is still available there. Brianjd (talk) 15:08, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the photo before the nomination, not after. That article was how I discovered the photo in the first place. I removed it then thought maybe the photo itself should be removed so came here to nominate it. I wasn't trying to hide this (I knew it would be seen in the photo's history) nor did I think to mention it here. Now that you've pointed it out, I agree it's probably worth mentioning here, if for no other reason than it highlights the photo is now not attached to any articles (unless someone puts it back). Will see what everyone else thinks now - whether the photo is suitable for the wiki or not. I don't think it is. SitcomyFan (talk) 06:10, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SitcomyFan: So you did. If you say that hiding it was not the intended result, I believe you. Even so, that was the actual result. We don’t have a file usage history; I only found it by chance when I was looking for more information on the subject.
Looking through some of the relevant categories on Commons and the English Wikipedia, it looks like this type of article generally doesn’t have real images, nor are such images available on Commons (at least where I looked). The one exception I found, known to be underage (or at least in school), was Hand caning.jpg. Brianjd (talk) 11:18, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Used at en:User talk:Orangemarlin/Archives June-July 2011, but for once I think the use is incidental and not a reason to keep the file. Brianjd (talk) 14:57, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Am I suggesting that washing a boy's mouth out with soap is indeed abusive? You bet your ass I am! -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:08, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
